Y Way

From Pittsburgh Streets
Y Way
Neighborhood Lincoln Place
Origin of name Continuation of a series of lettered ways begun in the Calhoun Park plan
Ford Alley (until 1930)

This alley was laid out as Ford Alley in Extension No. 1 to the McElhinny plan of lots in 1901.[1]

Lincoln Place was annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1929.[2] Pittsburgh already had a Ford Street, so the next year Ford Alley was renamed Y Way.[3] The names M Way through Z Way assigned in 1930 continued a series of consecutively lettered alleys in the Calhoun Park plan of 1917, which had B Way (later Oakleaf Way) through L Way.[4]
