This street was laid out as Felix Avenue in the West Pittsburg plan of 1900.[1]
Chartiers Township, including most of what is now the neighborhood of Crafton Heights, was annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1921.[2] Pittsburgh already had a Felix Way, so the following year a city ordinance changed the name of Felix Avenue to Ford Street.[3]
