1872-12-23, Common Council (Source:Municipal-record-1872, p. 126): "New Surveys. ¶ Mr. John Fleming presented the report of the Survey Committee. Report received and filed. ¶ Business accompanying the report was disposed of as voted. Profiles of the following streets: . . . , Onyx street, . . . , all of which were approved."

1890-04-19: "Real estate transactions," Pittsburg Press, [p. 6] (Newspapers.com 141345839): "Brown & Saint sold to Miss Mary E. Marshall lot No. 64 in Mellon's Negley avenue plan, with a frontage of 50 × 116 feet on the west side of Onyx street, situate one square west of Negley avenue, for $2,300. This makes the thirteenth lot sold in this new plan." Also reported in "Financial notes," Pittsburgh Post, 1890-04-19, p. 10 (Newspapers.com 86430174).
1892-01-25: Source:Ordinance-1891-1892-456 located Onyx Street between Penn Avenue and Coral Street.
1892-09-13: Source:Another-acreage-sale: "The paving, and laying of flagstone walks on Stratford avenue, from Penn avenue to Roup street, will be commenced in a few days. The thoroughfare has been extended in width to 50 feet, an extension of 10 feet."
1895-02-25: Ordinance, 1894–1895, no. 321, refers to "Stratford (formerly Onyx) street."
