This street was laid out as Taylor Avenue in 1902 in the Ideal Plan No. 1.[1][2] The parallel streets in the plan were Garfield Avenue (today part of Berry Street), Grant Avenue (today Oakglen Street), and Jackson Avenue (today Justine Street), all named for presidents; Taylor Avenue was named for Zachary Taylor (1784–1850), 12th President of the United States (1849–1850).
Chartiers Township, including the modern Crafton Heights neighborhood, was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1921.[3] Pittsburgh already had a Taylor Street in Bloomfield, so in 1922 Taylor Avenue was renamed Straka Street.[4]
