Justine Street

From Pittsburgh Streets
Justine Street
Neighborhood Crafton Heights
Jackson Avenue (until 1922)
Origin of name Andrew Jackson

This street was laid out as Jackson Avenue in 1902 in the Ideal Plan No. 1.[1][2] The parallel streets in the plan were Garfield Avenue (today part of Berry Street), Grant Avenue (today Oakglen Street), and Taylor Avenue (today Straka Street), all named for presidents; Jackson Avenue was named for Andrew Jackson (1767–1845), seventh President of the United States (1829–1837).

Chartiers Township, including the modern Crafton Heights neighborhood, was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1921.[3] Pittsburgh already had a Jackson Street in Highland Park, so in 1922 Jackson Avenue was renamed Justine Street.[4]
