Ontario Street
Neighborhood Marshall-Shadeland
Fate Vacated in 1974
Ohio Avenue (until 1896)
Origin of name Ohio River

This street formerly ran south of and parallel to Doerr Street.[1] It was originally named Ohio Avenue and appears in a plan of lots laid out by J. P. Smith in 1851.[2] It was named for the Ohio River, since it led to the river from the Ohio and Pennsylvania Railroad (today the Fort Wayne Line).

This district was annexed by Allegheny City in 1870,[3] which already had an Ohio Street. In 1896, many streets in Allegheny were renamed to fix such duplications; Ohio Avenue was renamed Ontario Street.[4]

Ontario Street was vacated in 1974.[5]
