1927-01-04: "Yesterday in Council," Pittsburgh Gazette Times, p. 20 (Newspapers.com 86498834): "An ordinance accepting the dedication of property for the opening of Ebdy street, Fourteenth Ward, was received. The Planning Commission submitted a letter protesting the opening of the thoroughfare from its eastern terminus to Beechwood boulevard. The commission believed, according to the letter, that opening streets into main traffic arteries such as Beechwood boulevard at intervals of 150 feet is 'wrong in principle, especially in locations where a better and more profitable development could be obtained without such opening.'"

The city planning commission opposes the opening on the theory that opening streets onto a main artery at intervals of 150 feet is not good practice."

Ebdy submitted a communication relative to the proposed opening of Ebdy street into Beechwood boulevard. The opening is opposed by the city planning commission. The many property owners of the Ebdy plan, formerly a large tract in the Fourteenth ward, the communication states, have understood that the opening to the boulevard would be made, since the boulevard was but a road."

1927-02-20: "Bill aims to codify city planning laws," Pittsburgh Gazette Times, [p. 2] (Newspapers.com 86468825): "Ebdy Street Rejection Recalled. ¶ The principal item in which the commission would be shorn of its power is the opening of new plans of lots, involving the opening or dedication of streets. An example of this was seen in the recent attempt to open Ebdy street, in the Fourteenth Ward. ¶ Plats for a new plan of lots in the vicinity of Ebdy street, which now extends from Shady avenue to a property line, were submitted to the commission with the proposition that it be opened to Beechwood boulevard. The commission rejected it on the grounds that it was unnecessary and would create a traffic hazard at the boulevard. ¶ Later a dedicating ordinance was presented to council. It was found that body could not approve the proposal, since the planning commission had the final word. By the change to be made in the codification the proposition could be accepted in council, if it gained a three-fourths vote."
