Home Rule Street was laid out in 1886 in a plan of lots by John D. Scully and Charles E. Speer.[1] It is named for the Irish Home Rule movement, which advocated for self-government for Ireland from 1870 through the end of the First World War. Nearby Parnell Street, laid out in the same plan, is named for the leader of this movement, and Gladstone Street is named for the British prime minister who proposed home rule in 1886.
