Toledo Street

From Pittsburgh Streets
Toledo Street
Neighborhood Crafton Heights
Third Avenue (until 1908)
Origin of name Sequential numbering of avenues in Sheraden Land Co. plan no. 7

This street was laid out as Third Avenue in 1893 in the Sheraden Land Co. plan no. 7.[1]

Sheraden Borough, including this portion of modern Crafton Heights, was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907.[2] The following year, a Pittsburgh city ordinance renamed many streets in the former borough to fix duplicates. To avoid confusion with Third Avenue downtown, this street was renamed to Toledo Street, preserving the initial T.[3]

Fusion Street, Swentzell Street (now part of Berry Street), Toledo Street, and Frontenac Street form one of Pittsburgh's F–S–T sequences.
