The name Strayhorn Way was officially accepted by a city ordinance in 2016.[1] The name is that of Billy Strayhorn (1915–1967), a jazz composer, pianist, lyricist, and arranger who grew up in the Hill District.
Nearby Blakey Court, Eckstein Place, Garner Court, and Turrentine Place are also named for jazz musicians from Pittsburgh.
