Spring Alley (until 1914) |
This alley, running from Winthrop Street to Filmore Street between Craig Street and Neville Street, was laid out as Spring Alley in 1866 in James McGinnis' plan of lots.[1]
There is a much longer alley in the Strip District and Lawrenceville that was also named Spring Alley (today Spring Way), so it is surprising that this alley was never renamed. It seems to have been missed in both of the major renamings of 1881 and 1910.[2][3]
It became Spring Way in 1914, when a city ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[4]
