Sassafras Alley (until 1914) |
The grade of Sassafras Alley was established by a Pittsburgh city ordinance in 1851.[1] The alley appears, unlabeled, in maps from the 1850s through the 1870s.[2][3][4][5] It is labeled "Sassafrass Alley" in the Springfield Farm plan drawn up in 1879[6] and "Sassafras Alley" in the 1882 Hopkins atlas.[7]
The alley became Sassafras Way in 1914 when an ordinance changed all alleys in the city to ways.[8]
