Rear Way

From Pittsburgh Streets
Rear Way
Neighborhood Regent Square

Rear Way was laid out in 1919 in a plan of lots by William E. Harmon.[1]

In a 1937 Post-Gazette column joking about Pittsburgh street names, Charles F. Danver grouped Rear Way with Back Way in East Allegheny, Front Way in Esplen (today Field Way), and Side Way in the Strip District.[2] And in a 1944 article in the Pittsburgh Press, Gilbert Love included Rear Way in a list of ways that "in the competition for names . . . have had to take what was left by the larger streets."[3]
