Origin of name Sequential numbering of avenues in West Liberty plans

This avenue was originally laid out as 14th Avenue in 1903 as part of the West Liberty Plan No. 4 by the Beechwood Improvement Company.[1] The avenues in this plan continued the numbering from the West Liberty Plans No. 2 and 3.[2][3]

In 1907, a West Liberty borough ordinance changed 14th Avenue to Orangewood Avenue.[4]

The Borough of West Liberty was annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1908.[5] The name Orangewood Avenue was officially established as a Pittsburgh street name by a city ordinance the next year.[6]
