Usage of "the Reno way" to mean divorce:

  • 1934-12-18, "Reno's quick divorces bring sorrow to lives of hopeful litigants," Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, [p. 28] (Newspapers.com 90546473): "Death by his own hand was the lot of George William Hill, noted director, less than a year after he and Frances Marion, scenario writer, were split asunder the Reno way."
  • 1935-05-15, "Winchell on Broadway," Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph, p. 22 (Newspapers.com 524141525): "They started even . . . When they married the headlines blared . . . They were the couple of the hour . . . And they were happy, but their happiness was as brief as a brotherly kiss . . . Again they landed on the front pages when they went the Reno way . . . Each was tops in their respective trades when they split . . ."
  • 1937-12-04, "Divorce news," Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, p. 17 (Newspapers.com 88831364): "The champion bridge team of Ely and Jo Culbertson, also a matrimonial team, will soon be only a bridge team. The Culbertsons issued a joint statement to the public this week that they too will seek the Reno way out."
  • 1940-01-11, "Chatter!," Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, p. 9 (Newspapers.com 88913922): ". . . of Goucher's first 5,000 alumnae, nearly 3,000 are married out of which number only 75 have sought the Reno way out . . ."
