1830: Source:Barbeau (also Source:Keyon): Island Lane appears in the upper left corner.

1852: Source:Mcgowin-1852: Washington Street west of Beaver Street (Avenue); Island Lane to the east. Part of Manchester; part of the north boundary of Allegheny from Sedgewick Street to Pasture Lane.

1862: Source:Beers: Washington Street west of Beaver Street (Avenue); Island Lane to the east.

1867: Source:Woods-1867: As Source:Mcgowin-1852.

1867-04-11: Source:Lgeo-manchester-annexation: Manchester annexed by Allegheny.

1867-04-24: "Meeting of Allegheny Councils," Pittsburgh Gazette, p. 1 (Newspapers.com 85568294): "Common Council. ¶ . . . ¶ Mr. McNeil offered a resolution changing the name of Washington street, in the Fourth ward, to Washington avenue. Laid on the table." This was probably the other Washington Street.

1867-05-09: Source:Ordinance-1867-washington-st-grading-paving refers to "Washington Street in the Manchester District."

1867-07-19: Source:Resolution-1867-washington-ave-widening calls it "Washington Avenue": "Resolution to widen Washington Avenue"; ". . . Washington Avenue from the P Ft W & c Railroad to Pasture lane . . ."; ". . . said Avenue from Sedgwick st to the Ohio River."

1870-02-15: Pittsburgh Gazette, p. 1 (Newspapers.com 86346902): "Washington Avenue (late called 'Island Lane,') . . ."

1916-07-02: Source:Fleming-old-allegheny: "Washington avenue was originally Island lane. This was in Manchester, the street later called Washington avenue, now Columbus avenue. It was called Island lane because it came out on the Ohio opposite Brunots Island, first known as Chartiers Island and then as Aliquippa Island."
