1951-05-14: Source:Municipal-record-1951, p. 216: "No. 3685. Communication from George P. Slesinger, Attorney for the Century Apartments, Inc., asking that the square formed by the intersection of Bigelow boulevard, Webster avenue and Tunnel street be named BIGELOW SQUARE. ¶ Which was read and referred to the Committee on Public Service and Surveys."
1951-05-15: Source:New-apartment-house says square was previously unnamed.
1951-07-27: Source:Ordinance-1951-364: "Changing the name of a portion of Telegraph Square and Webster avenue between the west line of Telegraph square and the west line of Chatham street to BIGELOW SQUARE. . . . The south line of Bigelow square between the west line of Telegraph square and the west line of Chatham street shall coincide with the south line of Telegraph square and the south line of Webster avenue; the north line shall be parallel to and 50 feet northwardly from the south line as above described."
- Not all of Telegraph Square was changed to Bigelow Square, but this description seems to imply a generally east–west orientation.
1980-10-23: Source:Paving-the-way shows the realignment of streets for the Grant Street East project; modern Bigelow Square is labeled "New Ross St."
1980-11-07: Resolution no. 1135 vacated portions of Tunnel Street, Centre Avenue, Court Place, Sixth Avenue, Bigelow Boulevard and Grant Street; Bigelow Square was not mentioned.
1981-02-22: Sam Spatter, "Grant St. East model previews '90s Downtown," Pittsburgh Press, p. G-1 (Newspapers.com 146777949): "✓ Tentative city plans are to relocate Sixth Avenue slightly east of the Dravo Building site, then close the present Sixth Avenue when the new street is opened. Another new street, connecting Ross Street with Sixth, may be named Bigelow Square instead of Ross Street."
1982-11-27: Ken Fisher, "Streets will open this time next year," Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, p. 4 (Newspapers.com 91087811): "In the upper Triangle, Ross Street will be extended one block north above the Midtown subway station to connect with Sixth Avenue at the intersection of Bigelow Boulevard. The extension will be called Bigelow Square."
