Mignonette Street

From Pittsburgh Streets
Mignonette Street
Neighborhood East Liberty
Fate Parts vacated in 1964 and 1968; rest became Tamello Way and Ralph Munn Mall
Marietta Street (until 1881)

This street appears in maps dating back to the 1850s.[1][2] It was first named Marietta Street.[3] This name conflicted with Marietta Street in Stanton Heights, so it was changed to Mignonette Street in 1881.[4]

Mignonette Street originally ran from Negley Avenue to Whitfield Street,[5] but it officially disappeared during the East Liberty urban renewal in the late 1960s. The portion between Negley Avenue and Euclid Avenue was vacated in 1964.[6] In 1967, the half-block of Mignonette Street from Beatty Street to Tamello Way became part of Tamello Way, and the half-block from Tamello Way to Whitfield Street became Whitfield Place;[7] Whitfield Place was renamed Ralph Munn Mall in 1969.[8] And the last part of Mignonette Street, between Euclid Avenue and Beatty Street, was vacated in 1968.[9]

Nevertheless, current street signs indicate Mignonette Street between Beatty Street and Whitfield Street.
