Methyl Street

From Pittsburgh Streets
Methyl Street
Neighborhood Beechview
Sixth Avenue (until 1908)
Origin of name Sequential numbering of avenues in West Liberty Plan No. 2
Malvern Avenue (1908–1909)

This street was originally laid out as Sixth Avenue in 1903 as part of the West Liberty Plan No. 2 by the Beechwood Improvement Company.[1]

The Borough of Beechview was created in 1905.[2] In 1908, a borough ordinance changed the names of many streets; Sixth Avenue was renamed Malvern Avenue.[3]

Beechview was annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1909.[4] Later that year a Pittsburgh ordinance changed Malvern Avenue to Methyl Street[5] to fix the duplication with Malvern Avenue in Squirrel Hill.
