This alley was laid out as Johnstons Alley in 1862 in a plan of lots for the heirs of William Johnston,[1] who had owned property here.[2]
Johnstons Alley became Johnstons Way in 1914, when a city ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[3]
