A road in the location of modern Johnston Avenue appears in the 1872 Hopkins atlas, bordering land owned by "Mrs. Johnston."[1] The 1882 edition labels the road Johnston Avenue and shows that many adjacent parcels of land were owned by the estate of M. E. Johnston.[2]
