This street was laid out as part of Miller Avenue in the Brierley plan of lots in 1902.[1]
Lincoln Place was annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1929.[2] Pittsburgh already had a Miller Street, so Miller Avenue was renamed the next year; the southeasternmost portion, from Scorer Street to Kinley Avenue, became Barberry Street.[3]
In 1942, a company by the name of Roosevelt Acres Inc. laid out a plan of lots to the northeast of Barberry Street.[4] Apparently they liked the name Barberry Street and wanted it for the street that ran through the center of their plan, so, a couple months after the plan was laid out, City Council passed an ordinance that changed the name of the existing Barberry Street to Diller Place,[5] soon followed by another ordinance that established the grade of the new Barberry Street in the Roosevelt Acres plan.[6]
