Dagmar Avenue

From Pittsburgh Streets
Dagmar Avenue
Neighborhood Beechview
Ninth Avenue (until 1907/1908)
Origin of name Sequential numbering of avenues in West Liberty plans

This avenue was originally laid out as Ninth Avenue in 1903 as part of the West Liberty Plan No. 3 by the Beechwood Improvement Company.[1] The avenues in this plan continued the numbering begun in the West Liberty Plan No. 2.[2]

The southern part of Ninth Avenue was renamed Dagmar Avenue by a West Liberty borough ordinance in 1907;[3] the rest of the avenue was changed to Dagmar Avenue by a Beechview borough ordinance the following year (which actually said "Degmar," probably by mistake).[4]

West Liberty and Beechview were annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1908 and 1909, respectively.[5][6] The name Dagmar Avenue was officially established as a Pittsburgh street name by a city ordinance in 1909.[7]
