Belasco Avenue

From Pittsburgh Streets
Belasco Avenue
Neighborhood Beechview
Fourth Avenue (until 1907/1908)
Origin of name Sequential numbering of avenues in West Liberty Plan No. 2

This avenue was originally laid out as Fourth Avenue in 1903 as part of the West Liberty Plan No. 2 by the Beechwood Improvement Company.[1]

The southernmost part of Fourth Avenue was renamed Belasco Avenue by a West Liberty borough ordinance in 1907;[2] the rest of the avenue was changed to Belasco Avenue by a Beechview borough ordinance the following year.[3]

West Liberty and Beechview were annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1908 and 1909, respectively.[4][5] The name Belasco Avenue was officially established as a Pittsburgh street name by a city ordinance in 1909.[6]
