Wassatch Street

From Pittsburgh Streets
Wassatch Street
Neighborhood North Oakland
Fate Vacated in 1979
Winter Street (until 1925)

This former street ran along the bottom of the hill below Gomez Way, very near the curve of the Pennsylvania Railroad (now the East Busway), starting at Denver Street and curving slightly to come around and meet Gomez Way, when both extended further than they do today.

It was laid out as Winter Street in 1867 in a plan of lots by Charles A. Colton.[1]

Winter Street was renamed Wassatch Street in 1925.[2]

Wassatch Street was at least partially vacated in 1979 for the construction of the East Busway.[3] However, it seems to have disappeared decades before, or perhaps it was never actually built: it is drawn with dashed lines in the 1923 Hopkins atlas, which also shows that all surrounding land was owned by the Bell Telephone Company.[4]
