This alley was laid out as Vine Alley in 1830 in a plan of lots by John McDonald.[1] It was renamed Vulcan Alley by an Allegheny city ordinance in 1896.[2] It became Vulcan Way in 1914, when a Pittsburgh ordinance changed all alleys in the city to ways.[3]
