Template:Hathi/doc

From Pittsburgh Streets

The {{hathi}} template takes a space-separated list of up to 10 HathiTrust IDs and produces a list of HathiTrust links.

HathiTrust IDs are of two types:

  • numeric catalog record IDs, which refer to a catalog record for a work;
  • item IDs, which refer to a specific scan of a physical volume.

One way to distinguish the two types of IDs is that item IDs seem to always contain a period. The part before the period seems to be an abbreviation indicating the source institution (though this is not a HathiTrust institution identifier).

A catalog record may include multiple items, which may be various volumes, different editions of the work, copies of the work from different institutions, or different issues of a periodical or serial publication.
