Summit Street
Neighborhood Central Lawrenceville
Origin of name At a higher elevation than the main part of Lawrenceville when it was laid out

Summit Street was laid out in 1850 for James Robinson and William Forsyth.[1] The name is somewhat puzzling, because it is obviously only partway up the hill from the Allegheny River to Penn Avenue, not at the summit. It may have been so named because it was at a higher elevation (farther east and south) than the main part of Lawrenceville at that time.[2]

Lawrence Street was originally considered part of Summit Street, though the two were never a single continuous street.[3]
