Origin of name Hamlet, the main character in Shakespeare's Hamlet

Hamlet Street is named for Hamlet, the eponymous character of Shakespeare's tragedy (see also Ophelia Street and Joe Hammer Square, formerly Elsinore Square). Other streets in South Oakland named after Shakespearean characters include Cato Street, Juliet Street, and Romeo Street.[1][2]
