The original name of 24th Street was Wilkins Street, after William Wilkins (1779–1865), third president judge of the Court of Common Pleas (1820–1824).[1][2]
In 1868, Pittsburgh's modern sequence of numbered streets was created by renaming all the streets perpendicular to the Allegheny River; Wilkins Street became 24th Street.[1][3][4]
