WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Two East End Wards Fighting for a Street Called Park.
The Road Committee of Councils met yesterday afternoon, Mr. W. H. Denniston in the chair. Pay rolls for October amounting fo $2,718 were approved and ordered to be paid. The ordinance affirmatively recommended to Councils at the last meeting of the committee to change the name of Prescott street, Twenty-first ward, to Park avenue, and Park avenue, Twenty-second ward, to Prescott street, was reconsidered and referred to the sub-committees of the Second and Third districts. The change in the names of these streets was made at the request of the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church. Before the renaming of the streets of the city, there was a Park avenue in the Twenty-first ward and a Park Way in the Twenty-second ward. To avoid having two "Park" streets Park avenue was changed to Prescott street. The Park avenue church was chartered under that name and at its request the exchange of names was made. This brought the Twenty-second ward people to the front and they object to having the name of Prescott put upon them. The sub-committees will endeavor to make peace and will be aided by the City Engineer. A remonstrance against the construction of a sewer on Henry, Craig, Winthrop and Neville streets was presented and referred to a sub-committe [sic], and the meeting adjourned.
