We understand that the Marquis of Bute, accompanied by Sir James Fergusson, intends visiting Bute in the course of a few days.
Annual Holiday.—At the request of the merchants and shopkeepers in town, the Magistrates have appointed Wednesday the 21st August as the annual holiday. At a meeting held a few days ago by the Annual Holiday Committee, it was agreed that an excursion take place on that day to Inveraray, for which purpose the steamer Argyll has been engaged. We hope all parties will unite in making the trip a pleasant and a profitable one.
Tigh-na-Bruaich Regatta.—G. R. Stephenson, Esq., of London, nephew of the celebrated George Stephenson, C. E., having purchased the beautiful estate of Calve, situated in the Kyles of Bute, at the foot of Loch Ridden, is getting the grounds improved and the mansion enlarged, intending to make it a summer residence. During the past few weeks his steam yacht Northumbria has frequently visited the bay, and as there is a fine band of musicians on board, who keep playing at intervals during the day, much pleasure is afforded to those privileged to hear its sweet strains. Mr Stephenson has offered a number of prizes for sailing, rowing, and sculling matches, to be competed for at Tigh-na-Bruaich, on Saturday, 24th August, when we have no doubt a large number will compete. Foot races, sack races, and other sports are also announced to come off.
