'NEW HOMESTEAD' ASKS TO JOIN CITY
Mifflin Township Community Petitions Pittsburgh Annexation

"New Homestead," an isolated section of Mifflin Township, seeks annexation to Pittsburgh.

Two-thirds of the property owners in the district have sent a petition to City Council asking permission to join the city.

The area is entirely separated from the remainder of Mifflin Township and is bounded by Munhall, West Homestead and the Thirty-first Ward of the city. It comprises the First Election District of the township.

The petition has been in circulation among the property owners since October.

The population is estimated at 1,000. Bertha Harris, August J. Jonnet and Antoni Szathowski signed the affidavit attesting to the legitimacy of the petitioners.

West Homestead is also seeking annexation to the city.
