Snow Alley (until 1914) |
Snow Alley is listed in an 1881 city ordinance establishing the names of all streets in Pittsburgh.[1] It became Snow Way in 1914 when another ordinance changed all alleys in the city to ways.[2]
Bob Regan includes "Snow" in his "Streets of Pittsburgh" crossword puzzle, clued as "Precipitation falling from clouds in the form of ice crystals."[3] Unfortunately this is just a dictionary definition of the word snow and gives no information about the origin of the name.
