Origin of name William Tecumseh Sherman

This street was originally named Sherman Street for William Tecumseh Sherman (1820–1891), Union general in the American Civil War.[1] It was renamed Republic Street in 1881 to fix the duplication with Sherman Street in Lawrenceville (today Sherrod Street).[2]
