Race Street was laid out in 1899 in the Homewood Driving Park Plan[1] on land that was formerly the Pittsburgh Driving Park (or Homewood Driving Park), home of a one-mile track for horse racing.[2][3][4] This street runs right through the middle of the old oval track, along its major axis.
