This alley was laid out as Brooks Alley in 1902 in a plan of lots for George A. Brooks.[1] It became Brooks Way in 1914, when a city ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[2]
Brooks Way was renamed Prose Way in 1927[3] to complement the intersecting Verse Way, which had been given that name in 1910.
