Peru Alley (1881–1914) |
This former alley was a short westerly extension of Linton Street from Roberts Street to Arthur Street. It appears, unlabeled, in R. E. McGowin's 1852 map,[1] and is labeled Porters Alley in the 1872 Hopkins atlas.[2] As with many alley names of this time, the final S was possessive and could be omitted: it was called Porter Alley by an 1881 city ordinance that changed its name to Peru Alley to avoid confusion with Porter Street further up the Hill[3] (today part of Elmore Street). It became Peru Way in 1914, when another ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[4]
Peru Way was vacated in 1991.[5]
