This street appears as Norton Street in the 1872 Hopkins atlas.[1] It was renamed Newton Street in 1881 to avoid confusion with Norton Street on Mount Washington.[2][3]
Bob Regan includes "Newton" in a list of streets named for noted historical people;[4] the implied eponym seems to be Isaac Newton (1642–1727), British mathematician and scientist.
