Milka Way formerly ran southward from Arlington Avenue near its intersection with Josephine Street.[a] It was laid out in 1919 in the Arlington Park Terrace plan of lots.[2] In 1923, after the annexation of St. Clair Borough,[3] the name Milka Way was officially accepted as a Pittsburgh street name by a city ordinance.[4]
In a 1937 Post-Gazette column about unusual Pittsburgh street names, Charles F. Danver wrote, "And the official namer came pretty close when he christened a Southside alley Milka way."[5] Danver was probably alluding to the name's similarity to Milky Way, either the galaxy or the candy bar.
Milka Way was vacated in 1941.[6]
