Lilac Street was laid out in 1900 from Graphic Street to just past Frank Street in the Beechwood Boulevard plan of lots by the Beechwood Improvement Company.[1] The name Lilac Street had previously been used by St. James Street in Shadyside; its renaming in January 1901 allowed the name to be used for this street when the Beechwood Boulevard plan was officially recorded in June.[2]
