This street was laid out as Haas Avenue in 1889 in Charles Haas' plan of lots.[1][2]
The Borough of Sheraden, including today's neighborhood of Chartiers City, was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907.[3] The following year a Pittsburgh city ordinance officially established all of the street names in the newly annexed district. This ordinance changed Haas Avenue to a street, but it also got the spelling wrong, and the name became Hass Street.[4]
