Neighborhood West Oakland
Origin of name Gazzam family

Gazzam Street is named for the Gazzam family, descended from William Gazzam, who left London in 1793 and came to America. He first settled in Philadelphia but came to Pittsburgh in 1802 and lived here until his death in 1811.[1]

William's fourth son, Dr. Edward D. Gazzam (1803–1878), was prominent in early Pittsburgh politics.[1]

The hill on which Gazzam Street runs was once called Gazzam's Hill.[1]
