Gangwish Street

From Pittsburgh Streets
Gangwish Street
Neighborhood Bloomfield
Origin of name John Gangwisch

Gangwish Street is named for John Gangwisch[1][2][3] (also spelled Gangwish;[4][1] 1821–1903[1]), a brewer who owned a brewery at the intersection of Main Street and Liberty Avenue.[4][5][1][2]

The street is listed in an 1881 city ordinance establishing the names of all streets in the city.[6] It appears in the 1882 Hopkins atlas, where both the street and the man are spelled Ganywisch (probably an error).[7]
