Origin of name | The Greek letter gamma |
This short alley formerly ran from Orleans Street to Watson Boulevard. It was laid out as Gama Alley in 1894. Other alleys in the same plan were named for Greek letters, so it is clear that this alley was named for the Greek letter gamma, despite the difference in spelling.[1] It became Gama Way in 1914, when a city ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[2]
In 1916 Gama Way was renamed Game Way to avoid confusion with Gamma Way in Regent Square.[3]
Game Way was vacated by two ordinances in 1928 and 1929.[4][5]
