Fairfield Street was originally laid out in 1902 as a short segment on either side of Hawthorne Street.[1]
West of Woodbine Street, the Pittsburgh City Garden Company laid out a plan of lots in 1919 that included Oldani Avenue,[2] which was officially accepted as Oldani Street by a Pittsburgh city ordinance later that year.[3] It was named for John P. Oldani, president of the company.[4]
Oldani Street was made part of Fairfield Street in 1933,[5] presumably in anticipation that the two streets would be joined. The connection was made by the Highland Village plan no. 1 in 1939.[6][7]
