This alley appears, unlabeled, in maps from the 1850s and 1860s.[1][2][3][4] It is called Edwards Alley in an 1851 East Birmingham borough ordinance[5] and is so labeled in the 1872 Hopkins atlas.[6] The name was officially established as Edward Alley by a Pittsburgh city ordinance in 1881;[7] the S was restored by another ordinance in 1910.[8] It became Edwards Way in 1914 when an ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[9]
