This street was laid out as East Street in 1874 in a plan of lots for the Sharpsburg and Etna Savings Bank. It formed the eastern boundary of that plan.[1] It was renamed Elmwood Street by a city ordinance in 1881[2] and renamed again to Edisto Street in 1925.[3]
