The earliest part of this street, between Stanton Avenue and 52nd Street, was laid out as Duncan Avenue in 1872.[1] It was named for John W. Duncan, who owned the land on the northeast side of 52nd Street.[2][1]
The name was officially established as Duncan Street by a city ordinance in 1881.[3]
