Sigma Way is a set of steps from Delaware Street to Watson Boulevard. It was laid out in the Watson Place plan of 1894. That plan labeled it Digma Alley, but this appears to be an error: other alleys in the same plan were named for Greek letters, so it is clear that this alley was intended to be named for the Greek letter sigma.[1]
In any case, the name was officially established as Sigma Alley by a city ordinance in 1910.[2] It became Sigma Way in 1914, when another ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[3]
The Sigma Way steps were constructed in 1949.[4][5]
